Four Reasons I Wanted to Do the Ketchup With Us Blog Posts by Number Challenge (for Ketchup With Us)

The ladies who host the blog hop Ketchup With Us – Michele at ODNT and Mel at According to Mags – had an idea for a challenge.  They asked bloggers to write some “listy-type” posts during the month.  They went a step further and decided to write one a day, for the entire month.  I thought I’d try to keep up.  Was it exhausting?  Sure, at times.  But it was also a lot of fun.  And so this final blog post for the blog posts by number challenge, is the…

Four Reasons I Wanted to Do the Ketchup With Us Blog Posts By Number Challenge

1)  I love the Ketchup With Us ladies, Mel and Michele.  Though I don’t know these two ladies – I have never met them – I follow them on Twitter, and I follow their blogs.  They make me smile and laugh daily with their blog posts and tweets.  To be involved in something they created was an honour.

2)  I felt inspired.  I was having writer’s block and needed some inspiration.  I started my blog in January and feel like I burst out of the gate with lots of ideas, but then I slowed down.  I felt like I wasn’t writing enough, and that “You haven’t met your posting goal this week” reminder from WordPress was a little frustrating.  This challenge came at the perfect time.  Instead of wondering what to write about, as soon as I heard about the challenge I began frantically writing lists.  That was a good thing.

3)  I wanted to keep up with writing every single day.  If I didn’t keep up with writing every single day, I would be letting myself down.  After all, I took on this challenge, and I don’t like to fail.  I do love writing, and even though I’ve been working every day for over a month – an unforeseen situation – it’s been nice to do some of what I love every day…even if some of my posts were a little “rushed”.

4)  I thought it would be a good way to expose some things about myself.  How else would you know about my encounter with a knife-wielding maniac in France?  Or about my obsession with good oral hygiene?  Or about my “issues” with birds?

And so I would like to thank Michele and Mel for this challenge, and I hope there will be more in the future.  Thirty posts in a month.  Whew!  I’m tired, but it was so worth it.

Twelve of the Funniest, Oddest, and Most Embarrassing Country Song Titles I’ve Had to Say On Air (for Ketchup With Us)

I work at a country radio station – CKNX AM 920 – in Wingham, Ontario.  Some days I look at the song titles, and think, ‘Oh Lord, I have to say this?’  And so, for this post for the Ketchup With Us blog post by numbers challenge – hosted by Michele at ODNT and Mel at According to Mags – I decided to list…

Twelve of the Funniest, Oddest, and Most Embarrassing Country Song Titles I’ve Had to Say On Air

1)  Lonely Women Make Good Lovers – awkward…

2)  Did I Shave My Legs for This?

3)  Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy – uncomfortable…

4)  She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy

5)  She’s Actin’ Single and I’m Drinkin’ Doubles

6)  Honky Tonk Badonkadonk

7)  Friends in Low Places

8)  You’d Make An Angel Want to Cheat – oh boy…I keep hoping this one doesn’t come up during the Sunday morning “inspirational” hours, just because it has the word “angel” in it!

9)  Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under

10) Crackers – this one goes, “You can eat crackers in my bed anytime!”

11) She Just Started Likin’ Cheatin’ Songs

12) I’d Love to Lay You Down – this is perhaps the most uncomfortable one for me, and I play this song on a regular basis!

Don’t get me wrong, I love the music I play.  And I’m often in the studio singing my heart out and disturbing the other announcers in the room next to me or the newsies upstairs!  However, when I have to say something about “riding” a cowboy to the listening audience which is largely conservative and mature, I feel weird about it.  Would you?

You still have time to get in on the blog posts by number challenge for this month from the Ketchup With Us ladies – Michele and Mel – and all you have to do is write a list blog with a number in the title.  Easy peasy!  And then share it with them via their websites and/or on Twitter:  @olddognewtits and @accordingtomags.

Day 28 of the Ketchup With Us blog posts by number challenge (and you have a few days to get in on the action by going to Michele’s website – ODNT – or Mel’s website – According to Mags), and I finally got someone in my family to do a guest post for me!  Today it’s my son Zander who’s doing the list, and because yesterday was the last day of school and summer holidays start today, his list is…

Five Reasons I Like Summer Break

1)  There’s no school.

2)  You don’t have to do any work (see above).

Ten of My Favourite Pictures of Zander and Zoey (for Ketchup With Us)

June is blog posts by number at the blog hop Ketchup With Us, hosted by Michele at ODNT and Mel at According to Mags.  Every day of the month, they are writing a listy-type blog post (with a number in the title).  I thought I’d challenge myself to do the same.  As I look through the posts I’ve published so far this month, I notice that a lot of them are about my children.  They are, truly, the loves of my life.  And even though they sometimes fight like cats and dogs – though I think there’s probably much more screaming between the two kids! – there have been some really loving moments they’ve shared, and that I’ve managed to catch on camera.  So, for this 26th blog post, I decided to share some of those special moments with you, with…

Four Delay Tactics My Kids Use (for Ketchup With Us)

Some days I look forward to the kids’ bedtime.  In theory, it’s the time when my husband and I can have a break and just relax.  We can sit down, talk about the day, and maybe watch something on TV together.  In theory.  In reality, it’s chaos.  It’s frustration.  It’s disappointment.  It’s the time when my husband and I spend too much time trying to get the kids settled down and sleeping.  And these kids are clever.  They do everything they can to delay going to bed and to sleep.  So, for this numbered post for Ketchup With Us, hosted by Mel at According to Mags and Michele at ODNT, I’ve decided to list the…

Four Delay Tactics My Kids Use for Not Going to Sleep

1)  The old “I’m starving!” and “I’m dying of thirst!” routine.  They’ve actually convinced my husband that they need snacks before bedtime, even if it’s not long after dinner.  He even asks them, when it’s time to start getting ready for bed, if they want a snack.  WHAT??  NOOOOOOO!  Of course they say yes.  Then they proceed to watch TV and/or play while they’re grazing on their snack.  When we try to get Zoey up to bed, she says, “I’m eeeeeeeeating!”  And this continues for at least 20 more minutes.  Zander will wait until after he’s brushed his teeth and lights are supposed to go out before he says, “I NEED FOOD!  I’m starving!!!!!”  Again, it’s at least 20 more minutes of being up for him.

2)  “Wait, I forgot to brush my teeth!”  This is a good one.  My kids know how much I love good oral hygiene, and so they use this to their advantage.  They know that if they say this I HAVE to let them go and brush their teeth.  And on a night when they don’t use it as a delay tactic, they don’t brush long enough, but when it’s part of delaying going to bed, they tend to take a lot of time doing it.  Hmmmm…

3)  “I NEED you to lie here with me so I can fall asleep.”  My husband and I were suckers when it came to doing anything we could or thought we should to help Zander get to sleep when he was younger.  We said we would NOT do that when it came to Zoey.  However, we fall into bad habits some days – not every day – and get talked into lying with the kids to help them go to sleep.  Zander will actually come downstairs – if we’ve finally freed ourselves from Zoey and are actually spending time together – to beg us to go lie down with him.  Some days it’s after 10pm.  Of course we’re made to feel guilty if we say no…but it’s EXHAUSTING.  That guilt that you’re not spending enough time with your kids or that you’re not doing all you can for them is terrible.

4)  “I’ll just read a little more.”  Zander is an amazing reader, and he loves doing it.  It’s probably his favourite thing to do.  So we let him read before bed, but every night it gets later and later before he stops.  I want to encourage his love of reading, and I want it to continue, but it’s getting much too late for a 7 year old.

Do your kids use delay tactics?  Please tell me about it!  You could also write a numbered post about it, or anything else you want to write about, and participate in the blog posts by number challenge, from the Ketchup With Us ladies, Mel and Michele.  Just go to their websites for full details.

The Mercer Family’s Sixteen Favourite Imagination Movers Songs (for Ketchup With Us)

Two summers ago we watched an Imagination Movers concert on TV.  We were hooked.  Immediately we (I) checked online to see if, when, and where they might be touring so we could go to a show.  We were in luck.  They were coming to our area 3 months later, and we got tickets.  It was a blast.  They put on a fantastic show.  So fantastic that my son and I ended up going to another show that same week.  So much fun.  For this blog posts by number blog, for Ketchup With Us – hosted by Michele at ODNT and Mel at According to Mags –  I thought I’d ask my family members which Imagination Movers songs they liked the most.  I ended up with 16 different songs, and that was after we’d whittled it down a bit!  Their music is enjoyable for kids and adults alike.  And so, here are…
